Do you feel the need to put a "Crunch" on your
competition? If so, check out the Crunch, Track's latest addition to the
mid-price arsenal. At the heart of the Crunch you will find a multi-density
core featuring a dense Rev Sphere. The Rev Sphere helps the ball rev harder
in the mid lane providing the bowler with the ability to control the
breakpoint without losing backend. The Power Plus resin coverstock will
provide the traction necessary to handle today's slicker lane oils. The
Crunch is a great addition to the tournament player's arsenal as well as the

Brunswick proudly introduces
the Inferno with Activator Aggressive Reactive coverstock.
Activator coverstock technology:
Every Urethane (Conventional and Reactive) is made by combining a liquid polyol
and a liquid isocyanate to make a solid urethane polymer. Brunswick has gone
back to these foundations and developed a totally new polyol, combined with a
radically new Liquid Crystal Isocyanate and Additive system in order to create Activator,
a new Advanced Reactive material.
Activator coverstocks feature a layered molecular structure that improves both
coverstock durability and overall ball reaction. By design, the Activator material
can be formulated to independently control the balls traction in the oil and
reaction to the dry. This ability to control the Traction/Friction Response has
been used to fine tune the Activator coverstock to match up with a new
Ultra-Low Rg core creating the Inferno, a ball with unparalleled
characteristics from the foul line to the pit.
Inferno Advantages
In the front-ends: The Infernos Activator coverstock is cleaner through
the fronts, saving more reaction for the back-ends. This provides improved
hitting power and back-end recovery while reducing sensitivity to breakdown in
front-end lane conditions and lane surfaces that are less than ideal.
In the mid-lane: The Ultra-Low RG core used in the Inferno provides
strong mid-lane recovery while its Activator coverstock provides improved
traction in the oil with a smoother, more effective reaction off the dry. This
combination reduces over/under reaction by making the wet play less wet and the
dry, less dry, effectively allowing the bowler to create more area.
On the back-ends: The Infernos Activator coverstock is powerful and
continuous from the breakpoint through the pins. Improved traction in the oil
allows the Inferno to bite through the carry down and aggressively change
direction without breaking loose from the lane. The strong rolling
characteristics of the Ultra-Low RG core make this move more readable allowing
you to open up the lane.
At the pins: The Activator coverstock used on the Inferno creates lower,
more active pin action for improved carry.
All of these characteristics become more apparent on less than ideal lane
surfaces or as the lane condition breaks down. Forgiveness, recovery and hit
are preserved as the lane condition changes allowing you to keep striking
longer with your Inferno before needing to change balls.
Utility
Out of the Box: With its high-gloss finish the Inferno will match up
well on medium to oily lane conditions.
When dulled: The Infernos hooking action will increase and its arc will
become more even, creating a better match-up for oily lane conditions and
further smoothing over/under reactions seen on wet/dry lane conditions.
Inferno
The Power the eclipse everything under the Sun!
The Illusion
From: Ebonite
Test drive the new Optyx Illusion and right away you'll
notice how it looks and how it handles lane changes like a pro. The combination
of Illusion's new Xenex asymmetric core and the addition of ChromaFlair™
particles to its Big Daddy Reactive resin coverstock minimize overreaction on high
friction areas for a smooth transition from oil to dry. Even when sitting
still, the new Illusion looks revved and ready to put you on the road to a
perfect game.
Only from Ebonite!
The Illusion
The Illusion name was chosen because of the unique colorization process. Using
ChromaFlair™, a patented multi-layer pigment that produces rich colors that
reflect a different color depending on the viewing angle. The ChromaFlair-type
of pigment is widely used in the automotive paint field. The flip-flop color
phenomenon seen in these light-interference pigments is caused by the presence
of incredibly thin, micro-layered structures that reflect different wavelengths
of visible light depending on the angle at which they are viewed, and their
position relative to the light source. Unlike ordinary pigments, ChromaFlair
pigment is opaque, thin, flat, and highly specular (mirror-like).
The ChromaFlair pigment is considered a particle. It is constructed of multi-layers
of aluminum and silica particles. ChromaFlair pigment is neither mica nor an
aluminum flake. ChromaFlair’s multi-layer construction is composed of pigment
flakes approximately 1 micron thick. Unlike mica and silica particles, the
flakes are extremely smooth, even on a microscopic level. The size of
ChromaFlair is smaller than that of the silica particles used in most of
Ebonite’s particle balls, allowing the reactive resin to have more influence on
the ball’s reaction. Because of their flat, platelet structure, the ChromaFlair
particles are more durable than the hollow structure of silica particles,
retaining their character for longer periods of use. ChromaFlair particles are
appreciably more expensive than standard color pigments and particle additives.
The Motor
The Optyx Illusion uses the Xenex core, the newest in asymmetric core designs
from Ebonite. The Xenex is a BOMB core design, placing the mass bias on the
intermediate axis. Core designs with the mass bias on the intermediate axis
will have more midlane roll than asymmetric core designs with the mass bias on
the high RG axis (like the PSA design on the Propellor core utilized in the TPC
Warrior and Shooter). The Xenex core has a medium-high BOMB strength, which
facilitates in the strength of midlane roll. In previous Ebonite BOMB core
designs (like the Matrix and the Fusion core of the original Apex and
Intensity), the mass bias was focalized on a smaller area, created by a
protrusion from the core body. This focalized mass bias produces more of a
hook/forward roll reaction, best played on a down-and-in target line. The Xenex
core distributes the mass bias on a wider surface area of the core. This wider
distribution of mass creates less energy consumption at the breakpoint,
creating more of a continuous backend reaction rather than hook/forward roll.
The Xenex core will allow the Illusion to take advantage of the quick axis
migration that accompanies strong asymmetric core designs while maintaining
more energy for continuation through the pins. The BOMB logo will be located
roughly 6-3/4 inches from the pin around the locator pin. To complement
existing Ebonite high performance products, an RG of 2.53/2.54 and differential
of .047/.053 was chosen. The medium RG complements the other Ebonite high performance
balls, which have lower values of 2.44 to 2.50. Higher RG values will promote
more energy conservation, allowing the ball to delay its reaction.
The Tires
The new, aggressive Big Daddy reactive resin base provides the traction of the
Illusion. It is engineered to provide a stronger breakpoint angle and more
backend continuation, while retaining predictability in the midlane. The
addition of a very low loading of ChromaFlair particles enables the Big Daddy
to exhibit a smoother transition upon encountering friction. The coverstock of
the Optyx Illusion is sanded with 1200-grit before being polished with Ebonite
Factory Finish Polish to produce a medium-high luster.
The Combination
The Optyx Illusion will provide a smooth, continuous ball motion reminiscent of
the Vortex II. Due to its higher RG, it will provide more length than both the
V2 Pearl and a polished V2 Black/Blue. Because of the factory polished finish
and medium RG values of the unique asymmetric Xenex core design, the Illusion
will thrive on light to medium oil patterns. The consistent ball hook motion
will minimize the over-reaction of typical wet/dry league patterns and of many
drier “sport” types of oil patterns. The Optyx Illusion will be the ball of
choice for slower ball speeds, releases with less axis rotation and axis tilt,
higher rev players, and those who desire to play closer to the higher friction
areas of the lane. Higher friction areas force the player to either move inside
with a stronger ball (not always recommended because of covering more lane and
higher concentrations of lane oil) or to stay closer to the friction with a
ball that will maintain energy longer (the preferred choice because most
players have a better ability to repeat shots playing a tighter target line).
The Optyx Illusion is this ball.
Surface Texture & Maintenance
Having the correct surface texture will enable the Optyx Illusion to perform at
its peak. The medium luster factory polish is designed for light to medium oil
conditions and medium speed players. Test the box finish in your bowling
center. Should your ball speed be faster or the lane condition heavier oiled
(causing the breakpoint to be too far down the lane to provide adequate hook),
we suggest dulling the ball with Ebonite Powerhouse Matte Finish or
Sandblaster, or scuff with a burgundy scuff pad or 600-grit sandpaper. Please
consult the surface friction guide for further information.
It is imperative to maintain a clean surface to allow the oil-displacing pores
in the ball’s surface to function properly. Powerhouse Energizer Cleaner and
Powerhouse Ball Scrubs contain a potent combination of organic and inorganic
cleaners designed to deep clean the dirt and oil from the ball’s pore
structure. Both products are legal for use during ABC competition as well as
after the conclusion of competition. The micro-fiber, Powerhouse Oil-Free Towel
will provide more absorption of oil and dirt than standard terry towels.
Drilling Instructions
Use the attached "Drilling Instructions for BOMB's Down Cores" drill
sheet. There are 6 different layouts for different bowlers' styles, releases
and lane conditions. The pin distance from the PAP determines the amount of
track flare and is the major dynamic determinant of hook potential. The BOMB
logo will be engraved 6-3/4 inches from the pin on the locator pin.
Occasionally the locator pin falls out during manufacture. In this case, the
ball is spun to locate the BOMB location with 100% accuracy. The BOMB logo may
be slightly to the left or to the right of a line drawn from the pin through
the CG.
